Description:
One of the greatest needs identified with
respect to rural community tourism development in Utah is the need
for hospitality training of "front-line" service workers in the
travel and tourism industry. Utah State University's Institute for
Outdoor Recreation and Tourism (IORT) and University Extension are
partnering with the Utah Tourism Industry Coalition (UTIC) and the
State Division of Travel Development or "Utah Travel Council" (UTC),
a division of the Department of Community and Economic Development,
to deliver an updated and revised "SuperHost" Hospitality Training
Program, an on-going, comprehensive, community-based program designed
to upgrade the standards of service and hospitality provided to
visitors as tourists. Supported by Extension's Community-University
Research Initiative Grant, IORT will be revising and updating the
current seven-hour SuperHost program utilizing survey results, industry
group input, and research findings, working collaboratively with
UTIC and UTC staff. In addition, IORT will develop Continuing Education,
Distance Education, and web-based components for SuperHost, providing
for program delivery via Distance Education's satellite system and
USU Extension Centers, in order for on-site training to be available
on demand in all 29 counties in Utah. The different components and
efforts associated with this collaborative partnership will be presented
in this session.
