Southern Region Information Toolkit

We know how difficult it can be at times to get ready access to quality data on your area, or to find the right mix of information that can paint a clear and informative picture of how your area is doing over time. The SRDC, working in partnership with the Mississippi State University Extension Service and the Delta Data Center, has assembled the type of information that we believe responds to the data needs of organizations and agencies located at the local, state and Southern regional levels.

The Toolkit provides ready access to a variety of economic, demographic, and social indicators that citizens, local leaders and organizations are likely to find quite valuable as they work to better understand and respond to important shifts taking place in their area. It can be found online at: http://srit.srdc.msstate.edu/

The Community Tool Box

The Community Tool Box provides an extensive resource for free information on essential skills for building healthy communities. It offers more than 7,000 pages of practical guidance in creating change and improvement.

Secondary Data Links

One of the important resources that community development researchers and practitioners need is sound data. We have attempted to identify a variety of secondary data resources that provide important insights on the socioeconomic well-being of various places and states across the South. We have not attempted to capture all possible data sources that are available. Rather, we have tried to tap those secondary data resources that we feel best align with our strategic priorities.

The sources are grouped by topic and by Web site. For those who are already familiar with various data sites, we have specified some of the topics you can find at these various Web sites. In addition, we have provided the type of data that can be found at these sites as well as some key data indicators. Our experience tells us that data are most valuable when they can be understood and interpreted correctly.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have!
