Entrepreneurship & E-Commerce: Building & Expanding Economic Opportunities
May 16-20, 2005; Oklahoma City, OK

Overview

Entrepreneurship and E-Commerce, sponsored by the Southern Rural Development Center, focused on the building blocks of entrepreneurship and discussed barriers and market opportunities for small and rural communities. Led by a group of the country's most outstanding Extension small business and technology experts, this hands-on training attracted 46 Southern Extension Educators interested in increasing their knowledge and skills to better aid local communities in building and expanding economic opportunities.

The first part of this week-long workshop focused on tools and programs to assist potential and emerging entrepreneurs. Later sessions focused on current e-commerce topics including marketing strategies, website design, and use of search engines. Using a computer lab format, participants had the opportunity to follow instructors using hands-on applications, training modules, and Internet-savvy techniques.

Wednesday afternoon was set aside for a tour of local sites and small businesses with an emphasis on rural entrepreneurial efforts and e-commerce applications. An evening reception followed the tours.
