- “Fresh Ideas for Rural Development,” SRDC's 2005 Annual Report

- 2006 Food Assistance and Nutrition Research Innovation Grants Program Request for Proposals Announced
The SRDC is pleased to announce its continued support for food and nutrition-related research focusing on the South. As in past years, the program is designed to support innovative social sciences-related research that advances our knowledge and understanding of food assistance and nutrition issues impacting vulnerable populations in the South. - New Interactive Toolkit Available on Redevelopment of Brownfields
Released by the National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals (NALGEP), “Revitalizing Southeastern Communities: A Brownfields Toolkit” gives local officials the information they need to begin revitalization efforts in their own communities. The interactive compact disc includes information on resources and funding, interviews with project participants and more than 60 case studies of successful brownfields projects. - Report from the Center for Law and Social Policy Outlines Changes in TANF Programs
This report explains some of the changes being made in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program due to the new federal budget. Among other things, the 2006 federal budget requires states to meet revised federal work participation rate requirements for the TANF program. - “Faces of the Future: A Portrait of First-Generation Community College Students”
The Association of American Community Colleges recently released a report summarizing the findings of a national survey created to examine various aspects of community college students' lives. The 12-page report looks at numerous factors, including age and gender, family income and reasons for choosing community colleges and specific programs. View the report in its entirety at:

- Report Details Decline in Funding of Academic Research
According to the National Science Foundation, industrial funding for research and development in academic science and engineering is experiencing an ongoing decline while federal funding of academic research and development has increased. - “Guide to Federal Resources for Youth Development”
In an effort to make federal funding more easily accessible to U.S. communities, America's Promise Alliance created this guidebook to help community leaders find the financial resources needed to help children and youth develop to their full potential.
