Signup for the SRDC's new electronic newsletter, Around the South!

Begun in 1997 to replace Capsules, Southern Perspectives became the quarterly newsletter of the SRDC and was designed to be a major communication piece of the Center. Each issue focused on the Southern outlook of a specific, timely topic. The publication highlighted the excellent work going on in the region and informed readers of relevant research and Extension activities. Most articles were written by individuals working in the highlighted topic. Regular features included informatino about Center activities, personnel actions of regional interest, scheduled conferences and meetings, and new publications and related websites.

When the Center expanded its policy and information series over 2002 and 2003, the need to use the newsletter as the vehicle for addressing priority topics in the region was dissipated. In essence, the policy/information series now provides the mechanisms for highlighting social sciences research, policy and application of relevance to the South. A new SRDC newsletter was released in January 2005, Around the South, that offers a synopsis of key information/resources being published by our Center and other entities that address issues of critical importance to the South — available only electronically (by email and on the SRDC website). We believe this shift will allow us to disseminate information to our readers in a more timely and cost-effective manner.
