The Regional Rural Development Centers were established by USDA in 1972 to serve as catalysts in initiating, facilitating and evaluating rural development-related research and outreach education activities. The RRDCs are committed to strengthening the capacity of local citizens to be key players in guiding the future of their communities. There are four Centers across the country located at Pennsylvania State University, Mississippi State University, Iowa State University and Utah State University. The Centers can be a key partner with rural community colleges in their efforts to help local people create and enhance community-wide discussions regarding such issues as: (1) a productive digital future for rural America; (2) diverse and sustainable rural economies; and (3) balanced multiple uses of natural resources.
