| The Center for Leadership, Community
and Neighborhood Development was established at Cumberland County College
as a replicable model for building community collaborations, enhancing access
to education, improving workforce skills, and developing local leadership.
The model proposes the community college as the catalyst and collaborative
partner uniquely positioned to enhance both educational and economic opportunities
in rural regions. The Center's programs revolve around the themes of life-long
learning, literacy and leadership. They are designed to break the cycle
of economic decline and poverty representative of rural Cumberland County,
NJ. Replicable programs to be presented include: School Counts!, a business-education
alliance to enhance access to education and workforce skills, Leadership
Cumberland County and the Neighborhood Leadership Institute, local leadership
development programs, and the Cumberland County Literacy Institute. The
program mirrors the RCCA mission of expanding access to education, community
colleges as economic development catalysts, and community leadership. |
