White House Initiative on Tribal Colleges and Universities

On July 3, 2002, President Bush signed a new Executive Order on Tribal Colleges and Universities. The order recognizes the vital roles played by tribal colleges and universities in maintaining and preserving irreplaceable languages and cultural traditions, offering high-quality education to younger students, providing job training and other career-building programs to adults and senior citizens, and addressing the economic and social needs of the communities they serve. The order affirms that the Nation's commitment to educational excellence and opportunity must extend to the tribal colleges and universities that serve Indian tribes and Alaska Native entities. Join panelists representing the White House Initiative on Tribal Colleges and Universities (WHITCU), American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC), and the WHITCU Advisory Board in a discussion of this and other emerging developments in Washington and the implications for tribal colleges.
