To secure funding for rural development, community colleges must define the scope of their development mission. To enhance grant proposals, this workshop will present data on the role community colleges play in rural community development. In order to clarify grant objectives, participants will also gain an understanding of common barriers to successful vision building and the elements of success necessary to implement rural visioning programs through a review of rural development literature and audience interaction. Often successful rural community development has begun with vision-building programs led by community colleges. This development strategy offers an approach to meet rural communities' unique demands and provides direction to the community college and other community agencies.
