Alabama Southern Community College practices the principles of “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change,” moving on what Dr. Stephen Covey calls “an upward spiral requiring us to learn, commit and do on increasing higher planes.” The transformation of the college has brought about change in both the community and the college. Alabama Southern has created programs to attract students and improve retention success rates; expanded industry partnerships; developed programs to take advantage of local culture and history; fostered capacity building in the community; and addressed the professional development needs of the faculty and staff. In order to meet the industrial and educational needs of our area, Ciba Specialty Chemicals, Alabama River Pulp, Boise Cascade, and others have partnered with Alabama Southern Community College to create a program that prepares local students to compete for pulp, paper and chemical industry jobs by giving them real hands-on experience with the high technology that drives today’s industry.
