Long-term community change work requires competency on five levels: the individual, interpersonal, organizational, community, and systemic/policy. Leaders must recognize that they are part of the system to be changed, and they must be willing to build new relationships across old fault lines. The work requires an organizational home and a range of community partnerships to conceive and sustain new projects. Significant change efforts ultimately must address changes in systems and policies. A new video/print release from MDC called "Leadership for Community Change" follows the development of leaders at two RCCI sites: the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and Meridian, MS. The film illustrates how playing leadership roles in RCCI has required team members to develop competencies in each of these five areas. This session will show the new video and engage members of the Sitting Bull and Meridian teams in conversation about the skills they found necessary for leading community change.
