True North is a concept that grew out of an existing regional education model called the Northeast Higher Education District. The mission is to ensure that northeast Minnesota remains a viable place to live, learn, work and grow. This was the beginning of a realignment of resources, people and ideas. In the two years since its inception, True North has discovered the Rural Community College Initiative (RCCI) and has been welcomed as a "northern region" associate. We have received a congressional earmark of one million dollars through the efforts of Senator Wellstone to develop Rural Telework Centers across northeast Minnesota to create new businesses, produce software programs for larger corporations, incubate new business ideas, promote education internships, and create a point-of-presence on the main streets of our communities. This will result in telecommunications industry clusters which directly impact workers and workforce development. Our proposal is to present this telework concept as a tutorial for attendees.
