| While many rural communities are creating economic development plans to catapult their area into a globally competitive market, sometimes they overlook their unique local attributes that could help unite a community, build needed partnerships, create a sense of ownership, ultimately create new jobs, and enhance the economic health of the region through cultural tourism. One of the major obstacles rural communities are faced with is lack of resources, whether those resources are technological, educational, financial or human. Creating a cultural tourism plan allows the community, and all interested parties, to meet with others to catalog local attributes, create a focus of emphasis, and establish strategies for funding and sharing responsibilities. Often, not only will a sense of community pride and new found enthusiasm develop, but also the necessary collaborations for the economic development plan to reach fruition. Participants who are interested in creating a cultural tourism plan, building partnerships, funding strategies, executing a cultural tourism event, or promotional strategies would find this session extremely informative. | ||
