May 2008 the inaugural “Exploring Viable Opportunities for Low Wealth Communities in the Delta” summit was held at Louisiana State University. Leading researchers and practitioners from across the country served as speakers to address the issue of poverty in the South. The conference was sponsored by the Southern Rural Development Center (SRDC), Southern University (Louisiana’s 1890 Land-Grant University), Louisiana State University’s Poverty Initiative, and the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations. Discussions ensued regarding the establishment of a permanent organization and Website for the purpose of disseminating information to groups interested in the issue. This Website seeks to make the most up to date research, reports, and resources available to professionals in the field. • Conference Presentations
