Perkins, Oklahoma Rolls Out Community Web site

As a result of a workshop following the Connection Rural Communities Curriculum, funded by the Southern Rural Development Center under the National e-Commerce Extension Initiative’s Program Implementation Mini Grants Program, Perkins Oklahoma launched their community Web site.

Under the direction of Oklahoma State University Extension Specialist Dr. Brian Whitacre, the community of Perkins, Oklahoma (population 2,272) began with a community wide residential and business survey as well as several community discussion meetings before deciding that a community Web site would best meet their technological and social networking needs. The site, launched in late April contains sections for a community calendar, information about living in Perkins, visitor information, community educational resources, information on and Web links to local and tribal government as well as contacts to the Chamber of Commerce. While the Web site is still a work in progress, the launch marks a clear strategic accomplishment that was set as a result of a community group working through the Connecting Rural Communities Curriculum model. Congratulations to Perkins on a job well done!
