Designing Your Site

Templates

Most sources offer templates so that you can design your Web site with very little computer knowledge. Often, you don't even need to know HTML– just choose and type what you want to be on your site .

Online Template Examples: WebSite Tonightwebsite tonight

  • Choose a theme
  • Choose the type of layout you want
  • Choose your fonts
  • Choose your images

Software

Don't be tricked into thinking you have to pay big money for Web site development software, there are several free programs that will give you all the basic functionalities you need to make a quality site.

    1. Microsoft Sharepoint Designer (Site Development)
    2. Aptana (Site Development)
    3. Gimp (Image Editor)

There is also fancier and more expensive software available for Web site development. Most professional Web sites will be built with "fancier" software packages like Adobe Dreamweaver (~$420).

These give much more control to the designer and allow for more complex designs / features.

For very basic Web sites, you can even use Microsoft Word. A tutorial on building Web sites with Word can be found on the e-Commerce tutorials page under the "development software" tab.
