NORTH DAKOTA- Online Marketing: Examine the Possibilities

The North Dakota State University Extension, United Tribes Technical College and Pride of Dakota teamed together to present a two-day marking workshop to 36 small businesses in the area. Online Marketing: Examining the Possibilities workshop specialized in small businesses looking to jump start their online marking and for those looking to refresh their skills. The hands-on workshop covered topics such as websites, marketing your brand, using analytics, Twitter, video, Facebook and more.

“The goal of the program is to create awareness of and comfort with e-commerce and social media as part of the business strategy,” said Glenn Muske, Rural and Agribusiness Enterprise Development Specialist at NDSU Extension.

Online Marketing: Examining the Possibilities was created as an introduction to the use of various social media tools to build one’s e-commerce capacity and enhance the marketing effort of small business owners, specifically the North Dakota food producers. The workshop was built around an online curriculum, Direct Marketing Food Specialty Products Online (go.unl.edu/directmarketingfood). Since the program’s inception, a second curriculum, Marketing Agritourism Online (http://go.unl.edu/agritourism), has been released and a third on eTailing Online is in the final stages of production. The curriculums were developed with funds provided by the National Extension E-Commerce Initiative (http://srdc.msstate.edu/ecommerce/index.html).

Muske tweets daily to over 240 followers, in addition to regular Facebook posts to their 338 friends on the NDSU Small Business page as well as eXtension Entrepreneurs and Their Communities page with the majority of posts emphasizing ecommerce and social media to help small business owners keep up-to-date on online marketing opportunities.
