Now that you have created a list of likes and dislikes from your online competitor’s sites, you are ready to consider your domain name. Play around with different domain names to see what you like best and what is available. Once you decide on a name, you will need to register the domain name and set up e-mail accounts, if you do not already have them.

Next, to assist you in outlining your Web site, a story board and Web site tree diagram will be very useful.

Activity: Creating Story Board and Web Site Diagram

Check Out These Examples:

Story Board Graphic

Web site Tree Diagram

While creating story boards and Web site tree diagrams think about:

Do cross-listed items make reference to one another? Do pages relate logically to each other? Does it guide the customer to a logical association? Does it promote sales of other product offerings?

Example: A customer is looking at candles and below is a
list of offered candle holders.

Example: A customer is looking at custom lamps and there is a model showing choices in lamp shades and coordinating colors of lamp bases.

Follow up by writing the initial text, with images. Always keep it simple and easy to understand.

Put a photograph of the item and description together and see what you think.
