Getting the Community Involved

Once you have drafted a Vision and Mission you will want to begin identifying the groups who will need to have input and/or who will be asked to provide content.

Getting the Community Involved

As we discussed previously, creating the committee and getting buy-in from community members provides the foundation for success. This slide tries to capture what, at first glance, seems to be a chaotic mix of community members/groups/sectors.

Your job will be to …

Construct your own map, indicating what groups you want to seek for input. Some of the questions that might guide you through include…

  • Who is already represented on the planning committee?
  • Who is missing that would have valuable input?
  • How will you promote the idea of the website to each of these groups?
  • How might these groups benefit from your site?
  • How can you best meet their needs (i.e. redirecting visitors to another site, offering a directory, or hosting content)?
  • How will you obtain their input?
  • Is their support critical to the success of the project?
