How Food Retailers Use the Internet

Production/Technical Resources


Production and technical resources have been a critical reason for online access. Online access is a gateway to new information on technological advancements in the field. Business owners and managers benefit from consultants and advisors who can help with new in-store equipment or new production processes that can maximize business efficiency.

Product Development

From the internet information is gained on technical specifications and technical reporting on products that are being developed.  

Supply Chain Management

Supply chain management is a critical use of the Internet in food businesses.  Wholesalers and direct suppliers now strongly recommend that grocers to move more of their transactions online – ordering, inventory management, billing and electronic payments.

Customer Service

Savvy business professionals know that the relationship they have with their customers must be maintained and managed. Good customer relations tend to increase revenue and are especially important in a product category that required a lot of trust. Modern food entrepreneurs have extended customer service online to include taking product feedback (positive or negative), announcements of new products, store news and previews of upcoming specials or promotional events.
