Branding Your Site

No matter which page within the site a user lands on they should be able to determine quickly and easily who this site represents. Details matter in branding your site:

  • Logos should be present on every page;
  • The colors and font should be consistent throughout the site; and
  • Navigation bars should be clearly labeled and consistent.

The community the site is serving may already have developed a brand. While the art and science of branding is beyond the scope of this curriculum, the committee needs to be certain that the basic elements of branding are considered and, if they already exist, they are adhered to during the site design process.

Although we will talk more about this later, it can be useful to start thinking about how your site will be branded. Are there existing community or organizational logos that you might want to use? If so, do you know how to request permission to do so?

Are there other community sites that will be affiliated with your site? If so, consider a similar color palette and fonts to make the connection stronger.
